Property and Evidence Function Course

Service Description
This half-day seminar is designed for new and existing property officers and clerks who are responsible for overseeing their department’s property and evidence function. The purpose of this class is to provide standardized training for the responsibilities, procedures, and guidelines to properly maintain the condition and integrity of evidence. Modern evidence storage must consider the proper documentation and storage of money, guns, DNA/biological evidence, hazardous items such as narcotics, files both physical and digital, and flammables/combustibles. Topics to be covered during this program include: • audits and inventories • facility design and requirements • storage issues • packaging and labeling • paper vs. computerized evidence systems and bar codes • chain of custody • evidence destruction, disposal, purging • policies and procedures • issues related to money, weapons, controlled substances, biohazards and found property
